Your Money Mindset is determined early in your life. 

Did you know that your money mindset is determined very early in your life? From the time that you were very young, you experienced situations, maybe at your first job, or how your parents talked (or didn’t talk) about money. These experiences can be both positive and negative, but they greatly affect how you view / make decisions about money. 

Business v. Personal

Oftentimes, we as small business owners think we can just flip a switch between our personal life and business ownership. Balance is so hard, and I would argue, nearly impossible. Instead of balance, it is more like work / life integration. I believe it’s the same for finances. Your personal experiences and money mindset greatly affect your business decisions. From fear of making the wrong financial decision all the way to being much too confident when committing cash to an initiative, our history with money and how we learned to treat it is directly related to how we manage it at work. 

So, What do You do now?

1. Start with a self-evaluation
   1. Knowing where to start changing your money mindset, means you need to start with asking yourself some questions.
      1. While I was growing up, what did my parents or others say (or not say) about money?
      2. What were the fears (if any) that you had about money growing up?
      3. What was the first time that I knew I had to take money management seriously, and how did that feel?
2. Learn!
   1. Educating yourself can be one of the most empowering things that you can do for your business and yourself personally.
      1. Read books like The Simple Path to Wealth or The Psychology of Money.
