HEY! WE'RE DREW & MOLLIE ADAMS
Entrepreneurship can be one of the most freeing experiences in life, but it can also be the source of some of the most lonely times you have. Once I heard it described as having the highest highs and the lowest lows. That couldn’t be more true! Being lonely is tough on a person regardless. Then running our own company on top of it?! Talk about feeling unrelatable. But we can relate. And it’s a valid feeling! That’s why we’ve put together some tips on how to thrive while you are a company of one. From structuring your work day, to creating a community of like minded entrepreneurs, you can thrive while running your business solo. Let’s dive in!
Create Structure in Entrepreneurship
The first tip to thriving as a company of one is to create structure. Now, I’m not trying to cramp your style or put you in a box! I just want you to truly hold yourself accountable and stay motivated, and adding structure to your routine is so important. Here are some examples: setting your working hours, carving out a dedicated spot for work at home, or creating routines to follow every morning. Structure like this can help improve focus, remove distractions, and help you get your work done. Then, you have more time to go out and live, be surrounded by community, and feel less alone in your day to day grind.
Putting Systems in place for Growth.
You may be thinking: “What do you mean, systems? It’s only me here! Why do I need a full blown system to get my tasks done?” I get it! You may have been burned by too much “process” in the past. You might also have seen a system that actually slows things down instead of helping. Why would you want that?! The idea behind these systems is simple. You can’t do it all if you want the business to grow. You will eventually have too many clients to keep all your emails straight. Posting on social media will get too cumbersome. Creating an email each time from scratch will take too long. Enter systems! From putting a system in place to batch work social media posts, to creating email templates for client communication, systems can help take the stress out of everyday solo entrepreneurship. You don’t have to worry about always creating. Make it easier on yourself by putting systems in place for ongoing work!
Keep your finances in line!
This is so important for solo entrepreneurs. While you focus on clients, content, and operations, you can rest assured knowing that you have set up your finances well. Cash flow management and paying yourself a reasonable salary are just two of the ways that you can save yourself from headaches during your workday. Also, keeping your personal finances separate from your business finances is essential. Check out this blog about why setting up a business bank account is so important!
Give yourself work/life boundaries.
On your journey of entrepreneurship, it’s easy to just never stop. Especially as a company of one, there is always something to do. The work never seems to end! I’m here to tell you that you have to give yourself a break. This starts by creating some clear separation between work and personal life. Create a specific email for yourself that belongs to the company. Put down the work to go do things like exercise and hang out with your kids. Work will always be there. One of your goals with entrepreneurship is probably flexibility and freedom, so don’t live to work—work to live!
Find community in your field
Finding community in your field of work or in the entrepreneurship world as a whole is so important! We weren’t meant to do life alone, so why do your work isolated?! Click here to join our Facebook group of entrepreneurs just like you!
